Experience - Reflection

Different designers have different experiences that are very useful for us to study. For example, David Carson, Stefan Sagmeister, Saul Bass and so on.

Firstly, David Carson, he has experiences such as interact with client to make concept and so on. Especially, he breaks design rules (design typography that difficult to read). Although typography is difficult to read, it is dominant to content. As a result, I like his experiences so much. It helps me have a new view about typography design.


Secondly, Stefan Sagmeister, his experience is that does not follow habit (only use Photoshop), must combine with other media (video, sound and so on) and so on. Now, I am studying semester 4. During last 3 semesters, when I think to design, I think to Photoshop. Therefore, when I know about Stefan Sagmeister’s experience, I know that I am wrong when I follow habit (only use Photoshop). Now I will try to combine with other media. For the project of DIM 3, I will combine Photoshop, video, flash and so on.


Finally, Saul Bass, he likes to design simply but impressive. I like his design style and experience (place the main object at the center that made poster more balanced, use contrast colors that made the main object and text more dominant in background, a lot of white spaces that helps viewer taking a rest for their vision and think about content) a lot.

In conclusion, go to websites, watch video, advertisement, learn about experiences of designer is one of ways that help us to improve experience.

From these interests, I have wanted to study Design in RMIT University. I am studying in semester 4. During the time that I have been studying in RMIT, I have got useful knowledge such as: How to design a cover book, card, web and so on. All of them is very necessary for my job (open a printing shop) in the future.
